Working on Our Oddball Charity Lapghan

This weekend, I'm working on repairing our Oddball Lapghan #1, then finishing it up, and giving it to charity. (It's going to a rape crisis center in North Carolina.)

Here's my post on my other blog about the Lapghan Surgery.

In other news...(tee-hee)...as you all know, I'm CONSTANTLY talking about my charity knitting. Well, the other day, I was at CVS Pharmacy in Indian Trail, talking to the pharmacy clerk there. I was talking about the blankets we make for charity in the Knitting Help Forum, and she said, "Oh! You do charity knitting?" Then, she proceeded to tell me that she had a large afghan that had a small hole. She said that she would gladly give it to me, since I know how to fix things like that. She didn't know if it was knit or crochet. I said that I would gladly take it off her hands.

So, I went there the next week to see if she had brought the afghan. She had...and it's GORGEOUS!

It only has a small tear, which will be so easy to fix. I had originally told her that I would probably unravel the afghan to use the yarn for charity. But this is just too pretty to unravel! In fact, I think I'll check with her to make sure she really wants to part with it.

It's hand-crocheted, with bobbles and pretty designs on the border. Very nice. Warm too.

After I talk to her, I'll fix the blanket. Then, I'll decide what to do with it. I might just snuggle under it for a couple months. ;)

My Trip to Biltmore!

Yesterday, my hubby and I took a trip to Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina. It's only a couple hours away, and we had free tickets from a dear friend. (Thanks Brenda!!!) I packed a lunch, and took along a few knitting projects. The ride was smooth and easy, with my hubby at the wheel. :)

When we got there, we rode in a shuttle to the estate. Look how happy we were!

The weather was absolutely PERFECT! The sky was a beautiful blue, and the temperature was just right. We couldn't have asked for a better day. Marvin bought an audio tour for each of us, so we walked around the mansion with headphones on, listening to everything with rapt attention. This was our second trip to Biltmore....our last visit was on our honeymoon in 2001.

After doing the first floor of the mansion, we were a little hungry, so we went to the stable shops and had our lunch. Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches, homemade sugar cookies, a purchased pretzel with mustard, and a couple bottles of Coke from a vendor there. Yummy! When we finished eating, I balanced our camera on my purse, set the timer, and took this photo. That's the side of the Biltmore Estate mansion behind us. Gorgeous!

After lunch, we went back into the mansion, and finished walking through the rest of the mansion...all four floors. My poor knee was ACHING after all those stairs. I could have taken the elevator, but my doctor has been telling me to exercise my knee more. I figured this was as good a chance as any to get some exercise. And exercise it was!! Golly! I was absolutely exhausted after all that walking. But the tour was amazing, and the audio tour really added a LOT to the experience. Definitely worth the money.

When we finally got back to the entrance of the mansion, it was closing time. I think there were only two or three visitors left in the mansion when we left. We rode the shuttle back to our car, and it was the ONLY car still in the C parking lot. (tee-hee) That's what we get for being so slow and thorough on our tour.

The shuttle driver told us that we would be driving past the mansion again as we left, and we would pass by the formal gardens and winery as well. Way cool. :D

Here's a view of the curving driveway, which goes on for MILES before you finally reach the highway.

As we drove away from the mansion, we were able to see it over and over again as we followed the curving driveway. Here's a view through the trees:

It was a great day, and I was able to get some knitting done as well! Almost finished one sock, made with worsted weight wool. :)

Bulky Sweater is On the Way to Completion

This past weekend, I did the shoulder seams on my bulky sweater, and added the collar. It looks nice! Now, I'm adding the sleeves, and they look HUGE! I might do something about making them look better. Update to come......

Woo Hoo! I'm actually getting some of my knitting projects completed. Unbelievable.

I did the last section and bound off on a couple of our Oddball Care Shawls in the Knitting Help Forum. (www.knittinghelp.com) Now, they can be given to forum members that need our encouragement.

I'm hoping to finish up that jacket today or tomorrow, so I can wear it when my hubby and I go to Biltmore Estate this weekend. I'm so excited! :) A friend of mine in the Knitting Help Forum gave us the tickets, and this is our last chance to use them.

Catching Up on Oddball Projects

I've been such a bad girl. My poor unfinished Oddball Charity Projects are just lingering in my craft room. :(

So, now I'm psyching myself up to get them all completed this year. This past week, I finished up two of our Oddball Shawls, and have been knitting more rows on a couple of our fullsize Oddball Blankets. I want to get them all sent out and donated this year. It's quite a task!

Here's my list:

Oddball Blankets #1, #2, #3, #5 - Finish knitting, bind off, add border

Oddball Lapghans #1 & #2 - Finish knitting, bind off, add border

Oddball Shawls:
Candy Shop - Complete! ;)
Magic - Complete! :)
Flower Garden - Complete! :D
Shades of Pale, Rainy Day, Angel Wings, and Blossoms of Joy - Still working on.

Oddball Preemie Baby Blankets - I am delivering them this month!!!! YIPPEE!!!
(It took me this long to find the perfect place for them to be donated.)

It will be so wonderful to get all of these projects taken care of.
